National Night Out Registration Deadline: July 31

Kent Police Chief Ken Thomas invites neighborhoods in Kent on Tuesday, August 2nd, to join with neighborhoods nationwide for the 33rd National Night Out (NNO). Participating in NNO is a great opportunity to bring your neighbors together and share food, good talk and fun times for the kids. Neighbors getting to know neighbors is a proven crime prevention tool, and what better time than August when the weather is typically nice and the evenings are long.

By registering for the event, you will also receive visitors from the Kent Police Department and other City departments. Your National Night Out Event can be as big or small as you want it to be. Have a potluck, ice cream social, outdoor movie night, minute-to-win-it games whatever you would like. Go big, stay small – whatever works for you.

Register your NNO neighborhood event by going to www.kentnno.com. Registration closes July 31, so act now. Follow Kent’s NNO on Facebook at www.facebook.com/KentNNO. For more information, please contact John Pagel at the Kent Police Department at 253-856-5884.

What is National Night Out?

National Night Out is a time for neighbors to get together, get to know each other, and help diminish neighborhood crime.

How do I start?

Think about an event that will work for you and your neighborhood. Do you have a lot of kids in your area? You can do things like ice cream socials, yard sales, water fights, and even more. Make sure you have volunteers from your neighborhood to help out. Have blank name tags handy so you can find out names easily, and get to know one another.

Find the best place in your neighborhood to organize an event, and work from there. Find out what you’ll need (tables, tents, etc.) depending on your activity.

How do I spread the word?

Print out invitations, and get the word out. Let your neighbors know you’ll be hosting an event, and that you’d like them to join. Send reminders a week before, as well as a day before to make sure people remember to join you to fight neighborhood crime!
