47 crosswalks removed, 61 crosswalks added

The City of Kent is making some changes to your neighborhood crosswalks soon. According to a mailer sent out last week, the new policy will make the placement of Kent crosswalks consistent throughout the city.

Here’s what that means for you:

  • 47 crosswalk markings are being removed
  • 61 new crosswalk markings are been added

Removal of crosswalk markings will begin in September and continue through November 2016. The addition of new crosswalk markings will take place next year.

The city cautions that crosswalk markings can be removed in as little as 30 minutes, so there should only be minimal disruptions to traffic. Drivers may experience short, intermittent lane closures. The work, which is noisy, will generally occur during weekdays between 7 AM and 7 PM.

For more information, including a video with a safety message about crosswalks, visit KentWA.gov/crosswalks.
