20-year Kent Police veteran died from a sudden heart attack.

The Kent Police Department is mourning the loss of a beloved police officer and friend, Detective Derrick Focht. Detective Focht, a 20-year veteran of the department, passed away this weekend from a sudden heart attack.

Detective Focht joined the Kent Police Department in October 1996. During his tenure, he served as a patrol and response officer, a field training officer, critical incident negotiator and detective.

In a press release, the Kent Police Department said: “The mood at the Kent Police Department is predictably somber. This is a time of profound sadness for our Kent PD family. We’ve lost a valued officer and great friend.”

Detective Focht leaves behind a wife and two children. The Kent Police Department has reached out to the family to provide assistance and support.
