At approximately 3 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2018, the Washington State Patrol (WSP) responded to a report of a multiple vehicle serious injury collision WB SR 18 near SR 164 in Auburn.
Once troopers arrived at the scene it was determined that a 2001 Subaru was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of SR 18, ultimately striking three other vehicles, the last of which was a 2006 Acura where the driver sustained substantial injuries. The driver of the Subaru was placed under arrest for Vehicular Assault due to the nature of injuries and suspected impairment. The driver of the causing vehicle was identified as 23-year old Jorge A. Velasco of Puyallup.
