At approximately 11:40 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, the Washington State Patrol (WSP) responded to reports of a serious collision on westbound SR 18 near SE 231st in Maple Valley (map below).

When troopers arrived, they were advised that a passenger in one of the vehicles was deceased and the drivers of the two vehicles had serious injuries.

According to witnesses, a black 1998 Acura was traveling eastbound on SR 18 approaching SE 231st Street when the driver lost control, crossed through the median into the westbound lanes and was struck broadside by a 1989 Mazda pickup. The driver of the Mazda was a 36-year old male from Roy, Washington. The deceased passenger in the Acura was a 28 year old male from Seattle.

The driver of the Acura was a 27-year old female from Auburn. Troopers determined that this driver was showing signs of impairment and also admitted to Methamphetamine use earlier in the evening. The driver was placed in custody for Investigation of Vehicular Homicide and Vehicular Assault. A search warrant for blood was applied for and granted. She will be booked into the King County Jail upon her release from Harborview Medical Center.

WSP detectives are seeking any witnesses to this tragic collision or the driving of the Acura prior to the collision. Please contact Detective Ruth Medeiros at (425) 401-7719 or by email at [email protected].
