Kent Police is reporting that one person is dead after a serious accident in the area of Washington Ave N. and W. Meeker Street (map below) Thursday morning, March 22.

Police say that at around 11:23 a.m., they received a 911 call of a serious accident at that intersection, with one fatality.

As Kent Police and Fire units arrived, they performed life-saving efforts to an involved driver, an 83-year old Kent man. Although efforts were made, the man died as a result of the injuries he sustained.

The other driver, a 70-year old Federal Way female, was stabilized and transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries.

There were no other reported injuries or occupants in either vehicle. The identity of the deceased driver has not yet been released.

Preliminary information suggests that one of the vehicles was traveling eastbound on W. Meeker St. and collided with the other vehicle that had been westbound on Meeker St., making a left turn to go south on Washington Ave N.

“There are indications that speed may have been a contributing factor to this collision,” police said.

Kent Police Traffic investigators responded to the scene and are currently investigating the circumstances that resulted in this tragedy. The investigation is still underway, and the roadway was closed until shortly after 3 p.m.
