The City of Kent this week announced ‘Adopt-A-Spot,’ a new program intended to help reduce litter, take pride in our city and beautify Kent.
Residents and businesses are invited to sign up to provide some extra care to their favorite spots throughout the community.
This program will supplement the existing Adopt-A-Street program.
The Adopt-A-Street program continues to be very successful with 20 active groups and more in the process of signing up. Not everyone has the energy to pick up litter for a mile, however. The Adopt-A-Spot program will allow residents and businesses to focus on smaller areas such as littered bus stops, a designated block, traffic circles or other neighborhood areas.
This program is intended to encourage community participation in strengthening and preserving our neighborhoods. With 320 miles of streets and sidewalks in Kent, it takes a coordinated effort between the city, residents, community groups and businesses to eliminate blight and make sustainable improvements to the appearance of the community.
“This is a great opportunity for individuals, families, community groups and local companies to help keep our city clean,” said Mayor Dana Ralph. “It’s the perfect complement to our Adopt-A-Street program for those who want to take care of a specific spot.”
Through the Adopt-A-Spot Program, the city assists Kent residents and businesses in litter cleanups and maintenance of areas in the community on a regular basis. In exchange, volunteers are provided materials to help them with their cleanups and, to give them credit for their efforts, a sign with their name will be posted in their adopted area.
