To help manage traffic and parking on Tuesday, July 31, for the procession and funeral service for Officer Diego Moreno, there will be a free shuttle bus traveling between Kent Elementary School (27400 64th Ave. S.) and the Lincoln Park and Ride, near ShoWare Center.

It will be available between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The entire community is invited to honor Moreno at a memorial service on Tuesday, July 31, from 1 – 3 p.m. at accesso ShoWare Center (625 W. James St.).

Officer Moreno lost his life on July 22 in the line of duty.

Prior to the memorial service, there will be an official procession of police vehicles through Kent, starting around 11:15 a.m. The public is invited to view the procession on 4th Ave between Willis and James Streets on their way to accesso ShoWare.

“This is a sad time for Officer Moreno’s family, the Kent Police Department, the City of Kent family and the community,” said Kent Police Chief Rafael Padilla. “We hope everyone will join us as we remember Diego and pay our respects to his family.”

There will be significant impacts to Kent traffic throughout the day, and we ask drivers to please be patient. James Street between Lincoln and Fourth Avenue will be closed between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Fourth Avenue between Willis and James will be closed between 10:45 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Those attending the memorial should plan to arrive at accesso ShoWare by Noon. There will be limited parking available, particularly downtown, the Lincoln Park & Ride, the Sounder garage at Kent Station and City Hall. There will also be limited street parking available throughout downtown.
