The SR 509 Completion Project team announced that they are gearing up for a busy summer, and some of the key highlights include:

  • Glimpse the future of SR 509. We made a video that describes the benefits of the SR 509 Completion Project. The video shows what key project areas will look like when completed, and includes a cameo from Mayor Dana Ralph:

  • Construction is on the way. We continue to work with Sound Transit to prepare for construction of the first of our three projects, Stage 1a. Sound Transit is building their Federal Way Light Rail Extension next to our project; because the two projects are located in the same area, it’s most efficient for Sound Transit’s contractor to construct both projects at the same time. Stage 1a includes a new bridge over SR 99 near South 208th Street in SeaTac and retaining walls along the west side of I-5 in SeaTac and Des Moines. Some early construction activities may begin in late summer and construction will be fully underway by February 2020.
  • Meet us in your neighborhood. We have a full schedule of fairs and festivals this summer! Look for us at the Federal Way Farmers Market (June 1), the Des Moines Waterfront Farmers Market (June 8), Burien Strawberry Days (June 15-16), Kent Cornucopia Days (July 12-14), and Kent Farmers Market (August 24).
  • We continue to acquire real estate. We have now acquired over 65 percent of the land needed to build the SR 509 Completion Project and will continue acquiring right of way throughout 2019. If you have specific questions about property to be purchased for the SR 509 Project, please contact Jason Motland, the SR 509 Project real estate manager, at [email protected].wa.gov or (206) 295-2759.
