The City of Kent adopted a Business and Occupation (B&O) tax, effective January 1, 2013. All businesses that conduct business in Kent, whether located within or outside the Kent city limits, are subject to the tax. B&O taxes are administered by the Tax Division of the Finance Department.

While all businesses are subject to B&O, the gross receipts tax only applies to businesses with gross income of more than $62,500 per quarter for quarterly filers, or $250,000 for annual filers. The square footage applies to warehouse floor space over 4,000 square feet and business floor space over 12,000 square feet.

The city encourages businesses to file and pay their taxes online using the Online B&O Tax Return Portal at TaxFile.KentWA.gov. Online filing is free, easy and secure. As an alternative, businesses can print off tax forms from the city’s website or by contacting the B&O Tax Division for assistance.

B&O taxes can also be filed using the return at the city kiosk located in the City of Kent Finance Department, Centennial Building, 400 W. Gowe St., Ste. 406, Kent, WA 98032. The kiosk is available Monday through Friday, except for government holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Taxes are to be filed quarterly and are payable on the following schedule:
