A Kent Police Crime Reduction Unit officer arrested a 57-year-old Federal Way man Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 10 on an outstanding King County warrant for failure to register as a sex offender.
According to the Kent Police Department, Sgt. Goforth was on targeted patrol around 2 p.m. in a high crime area on the city’s East Hill when he spotted a suspicious occupied vehicle parked in a store’s rear parking lot.
A records check showed the registered owner had a King County warrant for failure to register as a sex offender with a bail amount of $7,575.
Goforth contacted the driver and confirmed he was the suspect named in the warrant. The man was taken into custody without incident.
Police said the arrest information was broadcast over the radio and was overheard by Kent Traffic Officer Bateman. The vehicle had been involved in a hit and run Feb. 8 at an intersection near where the arrest occurred. Bateman responded and interviewed the suspect, who admitted to being the driver in the earlier incident. Officers also observed paint transfer on the suspect’s vehicle consistent with the victim vehicle.
The suspect was booked into the King County Jail on the warrant and faces additional charges of hit and run, no vehicle insurance and no valid license, according to police.
“We love solving two crime(s) with one contact,” police said.
