Kent Police are investigating the death of a 48-year-old Renton woman found early Wednesday morning, Feb. 11 at Kaibara Park (map below).
Kent Patrol officers and Puget Sound Fire were dispatched at 3:50 a.m. to a report of a possible overdose at the park, located at 212 Second Ave. N., according to the Kent Police Department.
Police said that a 911 caller told dispatchers he was walking through the park when he noticed two people unconscious on the ground. When they did not respond, he went to a nearby business to have someone call 911 and then returned to guide officers to the location.
The first officer arrived within minutes and located a 53-year-old Renton man and a 48-year-old Renton woman. Police said the man had a head injury and was breathing but unable to speak.
The woman, who was next to him, had a significant head injury and was nonresponsive. Despite lifesaving medical aid from Puget Sound Fire, sadly she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man was transported to a local hospital for treatment. His current medical condition was not known.
The Kent Police Department Detective Unit is conducting the investigation. Police said the cause of death is undetermined, but the case is being investigated as a potential homicide. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause of death at a later time.
