Kent Police are crediting a Good Samaritan with helping prevent potential harm after an intoxicated woman was found unconscious in a vehicle early Tuesday morning, April 7 on the city’s East Hill.

Officers were dispatched at about 2:04 a.m. to a bar area after a caller reported a woman had passed out inside her car, according to the Kent Police Department.

The caller, a man in his 20s who had met the woman earlier that evening, told dispatchers she became unresponsive after getting into her vehicle. He called 911 and remained on scene until officers arrived.

Police attempted to wake the woman but were unsuccessful and requested medical assistance. Crews from Puget Sound Fire responded, and the woman eventually began speaking, though officers said she was mostly incoherent and unable to stay awake or walk. She was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Kent Police publicly thanked the caller for his actions.

“Thank you to the man she had just met for not being a bad guy. You didn’t take advantage, and you didn’t just drive away. You ensured she did not injure others while driving, and you took care of her by calling 911 and waiting for our arrival. She was in danger, and she is very lucky you’re a good person. Well done Sir,” the department said.

The incident comes during Alcohol Awareness Month, which police said serves as a reminder of the dangers of excessive drinking and the importance of looking out for others.

Officials also encouraged those struggling with alcohol use to seek help, noting local treatment resources are available as well as crisis support through the 988 hotline.
