Early primary election returns Tuesday night, Aug. 4 showed several Kent-area races taking shape, with incumbents Claudia Kauffman, Debra Jean Entenman and Chris Stearns leading in 47th Legislative District contests, according to King County Elections.

In the 47th District Kauffman leads the state Senate race, Entenman leads a crowded Position 1 contest and Stearns leads the Position 2 race.

The two candidates with the most votes advance to the November general election.

The initial results from King County Elections showed 263,832 ballots cast countywide out of 1,454,559 registered voters, for turnout of 18.14%. The results were posted at 8:03 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, and remain unofficial.

47th Legislative District

State Senator:

  • Claudia Kauffman: 8,821 votes, 58.72%
  • Kristina Soltys: 6,174 votes, 41.10%

State Representative, Position 1:

  • Debra Jean Entenman: 5,560 votes, 38.54%
  • Cobi Clark: 4,346 votes, 30.12%
  • Jasnoor Kaur Hans: 2,742 votes, 19.01%

30th Legislative District:

State Senator:

  • Sen. Claire Wilson leads with 7,476 votes, or 61.43%
  • Michael Rutland had 4,681 votes, or 38.47%

33rd Legislative District Position 1:

  • Rep. Edwin Obras leads with 9,155 votes, or 69.50%
  • Chris Martinez has 2,045 votes, or 15.52%
  • Darryl K. Jones has 1,935 votes, or 14.69%

33rd Legislative District Position 2:

  • Rep. Mia Su-Ling Gregerson leads with 6,851 votes, or 52.17%
  • Yuri Marinchik had 3,349 votes, or 25.50%
  • Alex Andrade had 2,906 votes, or 22.13%

33rd Legislative District State Senator:

  • Sen. Tina Orwall (running unopposed) has 10,166 votes, or 94.12%.

 34th Legislative District:

  • Rep. Joe Fitzgibbon leads with 14,529 votes, or 73.62%
  • Mary Anito had 4,891 votes, or 24.78%

King County Council District 8:

  • Teresa Mosqueda had 17,984 votes, or 62.78%
  • Nick Duda followed with 7,876 votes, or 27.49%
  • Mia Jacobson had 2,655 votes, or 9.27%

King County Assessor:

  • Rob Foxcurran had 105,006 votes, or 43.12%
  • Christopher Roberts had 48,836 votes, or 20.05%
  • Dominique M. Scarimbolo with 48,523 votes, or 19.93%
  • Al Dams had 40,199 votes, or 16.51%

9th Congressional District:

  • Adam Smith led with 36,070 votes, or 51.02%
  • Doug Basler had 16,842 votes, or 23.82%
  • Kshama Sawant had 8,896 votes, or 12.58%
  • Melissa Chaudhry had 8,083 votes, or 11.43%

Several other area legislative races also showed early leads.

State Representative, Position 2:

  • Chris Stearns: 8,944 votes, 59.61%
  • Ted Cooke: 6,029 votes, 40.19%

The 47th Legislative District includes Kent, Covington and parts of Auburn, along with nearby communities in southeast King County.

Jerrod Sessler, formerly of Burien, is in third place in the 4th Congressional District with 10,426 votes, or 14.19%, behind Amanda McKinney with 25,633 votes, or 34.88%, followed by John Duresky with 22,657 votes, or 30.83%.
