New location will be south of Kent-Des Moines Hwy. and Highline College
Well, you know WE love Kent, but if you haven’t found enough reasons to love it, we’ve got something to add to your list: Dick’s Drive-In, the iconic Seattle burger business founded in 1954, will be adding its next location in Kent. It will be located south of Kent-Des Moines Highway and Highline College on the West Hill of Kent.
“All of the south region cities have been very welcoming. It was very difficult to pick just one winner, but we can only build one restaurant at a time,” says Jasmine Donovan, Vice President of Dick’s Drive-In and granddaughter of the co-founder and namesake, Dick Spady, in a press release.
“We are incredibly excited that Dick’s Drive-In decided to locate its seventh location in Kent,” said Kent Mayor Suzette Cooke. “I so appreciate the can-do attitude by our economic development staff in addressing Dick’s criteria to invest in Kent. It is a tremendous vote of confidence for our community. What a great example of public and private sectors working together to bring an iconic family business for the public to experience and enjoy.”
Why Kent? Dick’s Drive-In did an online customer poll to ask where Dick’s next location should be. After receiving more than 170,000 votes, Dick’s announced that it’s next location would be in the South Sound.
The goal is to complete the sale in early 2018 and begin construction in the spring, with the new Kent location opening toward the end of 2018. The new location will maintain the restaurant’s iconic 1950s look.
