On Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, at around 7 p.m. in the 22500 block of 116th Ave SE (map below), a 71-year old female driver started the New Year off on the wrong foot as she crashed into a Kent Police cruiser.
Police say that the woman – who was under the influence and alone in the vehicle – made a right turn onto 116th Ave SE, then crossed the center line and collided with the patrol vehicle, head on.
Neither the Officer nor the female driver were injured.
“There were indications of impairment related to alcohol and the female was taken into custody and processed for driving under the influence,” Assistant Chief Jarod Kasner told I Love Kent.
Not an ideal start to 2019. Suspected DUI driver hit an officer and will now spend the night in jail. No injuries for all involved. #betterNewYearsresolutions #NYEwaslastnight pic.twitter.com/4y7qShQQk1
