Early returns in Tuesday’s (Aug. 5, 2025) primary election show several close races in South King County as candidates vie for spots on the November general election ballot.
In Kent, Sharn Shoker leads the crowded race for City Council Position 6 with 32.4% of the vote, followed by Andy Song with 18.4%. The two are on track to advance to the general election. Logan Evans (16.9%), Jamie Lee (12.3%), and Tod Oyefeso (10.7%) trail in the seven-person field, with the remaining votes split among other candidates.
In the Kent School District Board race for Director District No. 4, Teresa Gregory holds a narrow lead at 41.5% over Carolyn Wilsie‑Kendall, who garnered 32.8%, with Zac Fister trailing at 25.0% — all still highly competitive races at this point in the vote-counting process. For Director District No. 5, early returns show Laura Williams leading with 48.6%, positioning her ahead of Jane Smith (31.3%) and Laura Jensen (19.4%).
In Legislative District 33, which includes parts of Kent, Burien, and SeaTac, incumbent Rep. Edwin Obras (D) is currently ahead with 43.5%, followed by Democrat Kevin Schilling at 32.1%. Republican Darryl Jones has 24.2%.
Metropolitan King County Council District 5 sees SeaTac’s Peter Kwon ahead with 28 percent, followed by Steffanie Fain at 24.6 percent and Kim-Khanh Van at 20.8 percent. In District 7, longtime incumbent Pete von Reichbauer leads decisively with nearly 60 percent.
In the crowded race for King County Executive, Councilmember Girmay Zahilay leads with 40.4 percent, followed by Claudia Balducci at 30.3 percent.
Across South King County cities, early returns indicate incumbents are largely holding leads, but many races remain close.
Results will be updated daily as additional ballots are counted.
The top two candidates with the most votes in each race advance to the November general election, regardless of party affiliation.
Results will be updated around 4:30 p.m. on weekdays until votes are certified on Aug. 19.
