From our friends at the Kent Downtown Partnership:

There are days when we all think we feel like 90 but…DEE MOSCHEL, of Kent, really turned 90 on Jan. 23, 2018.

Dee is important to Kent for many reasons, and is especially important to the Kent Downtown Partnership.

Dee arrived in Kent from Omaha, Nebraska in 1962. She moved to Kent, with her husband, who began his medical practice. Dee was a nurse. They had three children. Sometime later Dee’s husband died of a heart attack. Dee lost her daughter Kathryn to cancer in 2013. She has a daughter, Beth and a son, Dan.

Dee was known to the community for her work in human services. She served on Mayor Dan Kelleher’s Blue Ribbon Task Force in 1986 which created the recommendation for the City of Kent Human Services Committee. She served on this commission from 1986-1992. They developed the policy and procedures for the commission.

Dee helped create health services for low income people through community clinics, the precursor to the Health Pointe Clinics.

Dee was also involved with the Kent Development Association for ten years, before it became Kent Downtown Partnership. They met at the former Coachman Café’, which is where our current Senior Activity Center is located. Dee later became an active member of KDP, serving in several capacities. She is now a life-time member of KDP.

When Linda Johnson, a former Executive Director of KDP, passed away, Dee was instrumental in helping KDP until the Board could hire a new Executive Director. Jacquie Alexander was hired and Dee and Jacquie worked closely together and put KDP on the straight and narrow.

Jacquie later retired and Barbara Smith was hired as the current Executive Director. Dee continued to make herself available for any questions that Ms. Smith has, especially historical questions. Consequently, the transition, again ,went smooth.

Today, Dee is retired and living at Stafford Suites. On occasion, we visit Dee, who is as sharp as a tack and a delight to hang with.
