An early-morning fire severely damaged a home on the east hill of Kent on Thursday, Nov. 6, but all residents and their three dogs escaped safely, according to Puget Sound Fire.

Fire crews from Puget Sound Fire and the Renton Regional Fire Authority were dispatched around 4:55 a.m. after multiple neighbors called 911 to report flames coming from a garage.

When firefighters arrived, most of the small two-story house was already engulfed in flames.

The residents told firefighters they smelled smoke before their alarms sounded. When they exited through the front door, they saw fire coming out around the garage door.

Crews worked for more than 45 minutes to bring the main fire under control and spent several additional hours checking for and putting out hotspots.

No injuries were reported. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents with emergency support.

Because of significant structural damage near the garage, firefighters from Rescue 307 installed shoring to allow investigators to safely examine the area.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
