What is the fundraiser for?
The Kent Senior Center hosts periodic fundraisers to help keep the cost of the meal program low for seniors. The Senior Center pays the caterer $6.20 per meal and must pay for 80 meals per day. They only charge $6.00 per meal Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and $5.00 on Wednesday for the deli meal. In addition, the Senior Center provides meals for $3.50 for those who qualify for a subsidized lunch based on their income. The Senior Center does not always reach its 80/day minimum.
“The City provides us with some subsidy because of the value of the program, but we want to make that subsidy as small as possible, so we fundraise to keep the program going,” said Lea Bishop, facility manager for the Kent Senior Center.
