A 41-year-old Renton man with a long criminal history was arrested in Kent late Tuesday night, Aug. 13, 2024 on a felony escape and robbery warrant.

The Kent Police Department had been searching for the suspect, who had a Department of Corrections (DOC) warrant for felony escape from community custody and robbery in the first degree.

Police said the suspect had been identified by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) as a career criminal.

“At one point he was known to visit apartments in downtown Kent,” police said. “We did a BOLO, (be on the lookout) and Officers were looking for him this week, but coming up empty.”

The man was reportedly spotted in a parking lot on the 1700 block of West Meeker Street at approximately 11:37 p.m. after a witness called to report seeing him with a gun.

Multiple officers, including Officer Toledo-Blanco and Sergeant Chapman’s crew, responded to the scene and located the suspect crouched near a car with a group of people.

Officers cautiously called out to the suspect, and despite the earlier report that he was armed, he was taken into custody without incident and was unarmed at the time of his arrest.

The suspect was booked into the South Correctional Entity (SCORE) jail on the felony DOC warrant. Additionally, he has a $7,500 warrant from Auburn for DUI.

“Great job by Sgt. Chapman’s crew getting this suspect off our streets,” police said.
