A burglary suspect was arrested early Sunday morning, Dec. 8, 2024 after being caught attempting to leave the scene of a crime by a Kent patrol officer.

Officer A. Munoz was dispatched at 6:46 a.m. to investigate a rear door entry alarm at a business in the 26400 block of 79th Ave South (map below).

While inspecting the building’s exterior, Munoz heard a loud “thud” and turned to find the suspect, a 46-year-old Kent man, exiting through a door directly in his path.

The man complied with commands to stop and was taken into custody without incident.

A red cart found near the exit appeared to be staged to stash and transport stolen items, police said.

Following Miranda warnings, the suspect admitted to damaging the door during entry, causing an estimated $1,500 in repairs, and confessed to stealing several tools.

He was booked into jail on charges of burglary, malicious mischief, and theft.

Police noted the suspect has a history of prior offenses, including burglary, trespassing, and malicious mischief.

“Great job by Officer Munoz hustling to the scene and surprising the suspect as he attempted to flee,” police said.
