The Kent School District has received a clean bill of financial health, earning unmodified opinions in both its accountability and federal program audits for the fiscal year ending Aug. 31, 2024, according to the Washington State Auditor’s Office.

The audits—covering both the district’s financial reporting and its compliance with federal program requirements—found no material weaknesses, no significant deficiencies, and no questioned costs. It’s a strong signal of financial integrity and operational transparency from one of Washington’s largest and most diverse school districts.

“These clean audits are a testament to the hard work and integrity of our finance team and district leadership,” said Superintendent Israel Vela. “It reflects our unwavering commitment to being good stewards of public funds and ensuring every dollar supports student success.”

Highlights from the Audit Report: 

  • Unmodified Opinion on the fair presentation of the district’s financial statements in accordance with its regulatory basis of accounting. 
  • No Material Weaknesses or Significant Deficiencies were found in the design or operation of internal controls over financial reporting or federal program compliance. 
  • Compliance with Federal Requirementswith all applicable federal laws and regulations for its major programs, including Special Education (IDEA) and COVID-19 Education Stabilization Funds. 
  • No Findings or Questioned Costs wereidentified with no areas of concern requiring corrective action. 

“This achievement reflects the district’s culture of accountability and the strength of our internal systems,” said Executive Director of Finance Raul Parungao. “We are proud to uphold the public’s trust and will continue to prioritize transparency and excellence in all financial operations.”
