Bella and Lily are the most popular pet names of the year.

The Regional Animal Service of King County (RASKC) and Reagan Dunn of Metropolitan King County Council wrapped up 2016 by encouraging residents to register their pets, making it easier to find lost pets while also supporting the work of RASKC.

RASKC uses the funds to help place homeless pets in new homes, investigate animal neglect and cruelty, offer spay and neuter programs to reduce overpopulation of pets, and provide community education services. RASKC serves nearly one million residents in 25 cities and unincorporated areas in King County.

“A pet license helps so many animals.” said RASKC manager Gene Mueller. “It helps your pet return home quickly if they are ever lost, and it makes possible all our animal shelter’s work to rehabilitate and rehome thousands of needy animals.”

There are currently more than 27,000 pets registered in King County. The top pet names for dogs and cats in 2016 are:

Dogs Cats
Bella Lily
Buddy Lucy
Lucy Bella
Max Luna
Daisy Max
Molly Mia
Charlie Shadow
Sadie Buddy
Maggie Charlie
Bailey Leo

Pet licenses can be purchased at more than 300 locations throughout King County, including QFC stores and city halls. Fees begin at $15 and go up to $60 for pets who have not been spayed or neutered. Visit http://KingCounty.Gov/Pets or call 206-296-7387 (PETS) for locations.

Fines for unlicensed pets are $125 (if spayed or neutered) or $250 (if not spayed or neutered).
