Construction on the next phase of the Meet Me on Meeker project will begin soon in downtown Kent, continuing efforts to redesign a key corridor for improved safety and accessibility, according to the City of Kent.

The project will focus on Meeker Street between Washington Avenue and the Interurban Trail, where crews will build a multi use promenade and bike path, along with upgraded crosswalks, lighting and trees.

The work will also include improvements to water and stormwater systems.

City officials said a compact roundabout will be added at the intersection of Meeker Street and Lincoln Avenue to improve traffic flow and create safer crossings for pedestrians.

During construction, eastbound traffic on Meeker Street will be maintained. Westbound traffic will be detoured, and temporary closures are expected at Meeker Street and Seventh Avenue. Access to businesses and nearby properties will remain open throughout the project.

“This is a long-term investment in a more connected, walkable, and welcoming corridor in Kent’s downtown,” officials said in a statement.

Additional project information is available on the city’s website.
