The King County Sheriff’s Office on Monday (July 30) identified the Deputy involved in the fatal shooting at the Kent Station Parking garage on July 26 as Deputy Leland Adams.

Adams is a 28-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, and is currently assigned to Sound Transit.

Police added that some new information has come to light:

  • KCSO Major Crimes Detectives interviewed two witnesses, who both described an intense struggle between Deputy Adams and the suspect, who was armed with an AR-15 rifle.
  • Both witnesses independently characterized the struggle as “life threatening.”
  • After the incident, it was determined the rifle was loaded.

KCSO is not releasing the name of the deceased suspect. Formal identification will come from the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Deputy Adams remains on paid administrative leave during the investigation, which is standard procedure for an Officer involved shooting.
