Sen. Tina Orwall launches re-election campaign for 33rd District

State Sen. Tina Orwall this week launched her re-election campaign for Washington’s 33rd Legislative District, citing a series of legislative accomplishments and support from a coalition of state and local leaders.

The announcement was made by Orwall’s office and follows the 2026 legislative session, during which she said she passed five major bills addressing issues including artificial intelligence, housing and criminal justice.

Washington’s 33rd Legislative District includes SeaTac, Des Moines and Normandy Park, along with most of Burien, portions of Kent and nearby unincorporated areas such as White Center and Boulevard Park.

Orwall’s campaign launch includes endorsements from Gov. Bob Ferguson, King County Executive Girmay Zahilay, State Treasurer Mike Pellicciotti, King County Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda, SeaTac Mayor Mohamed Egal, Kent Mayor Dana Ralph, Burien City Councilmember Sam Mendez and LiUNA Laborers Local 242, according to her office.

“I’m honored to begin this campaign with the support of leaders and workers who know what it means to fight for our communities,” Orwall said. “These endorsements reflect the partnerships we’ve built to expand housing, strengthen mental health care, protect children, and make sure South King County gets the investments it deserves.”

A social worker and longtime South King County advocate, Orwall said she is running on a record that includes expanding affordable housing, strengthening behavioral health care, improving public safety and defending consumers.

Her launch follows the 2026 legislative session in which Orwall passed five major bills, including landmark legislation to:

  • Crack down on AI-generated child sexual exploitation material
  • Stop insurers from using AI alone to deny patient care
  • Strengthen the Foreclosure Fairness Act
  • Expand youth representation in homelessness policy
  • Improve justice for the wrongfully convicted

Orwall also highlighted efforts to expand support for Washington’s 988 crisis system, including suicide prevention signage and resources aimed at ensuring continued access to crisis services for LGBTQ youth.

“Our communities deserve leadership that listens, delivers results, and never stops fighting for people’s dignity, safety, and opportunity,” Orwall said.

Her office also pointed to funding secured for the Kent Multicultural Village project near the Kent Des Moines Station, which is expected to bring 233 affordable homes along with community space and services.

In addition, Orwall cited her role as chair of the bipartisan Flood Caucus in helping secure $41 million in flood recovery and prevention funding following 2025 floods.

“My top focus continues to be delivering real results for the people of our district — whether that means creating a trauma informed crisis system, building affordable housing near transit, or making sure families are safe,” Orwall said.
