NEW–Detectives ask for public’s help identifying robbery suspect
Last week a woman was robbed at gunpoint near 40th Ave. S. and 212th, just across the Kent border. King County Sheriff’s Detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying the man, described as an Asian male in his 30s, 5’6″ to 5’8″ tall with a skinny build. NEW–Congrats to Seattle Thunderbirds for 2-0 lead
On Friday and Saturday, the Seattle Thunderbirds beat the Tri-City Americans to take 2-0 series lead in the first round of the WHL playoffs. Games 3 and 4 will be at the Toyota Center on March 29 and March 31, respectively. Go TBirds! #kentsports
NEW–Two measles cases reported in King County
Local public health officials confirmed that two cases of measles – one in a King County man and the other in his 6-month-old infant – have been reported. The pair had recently traveled to Asia and neither had been immunized. They may have infected others. Please check the article for sites that may have been exposed and to learn what to watch for.
NEW–Kent Sunrise Rotary offering 4 $750 vocational scholarships
The Rotary Club of Kent Sunrise will award 4 $750 vocational scholarships at a joint ceremony with Kent Community Foundation and Kent Area PTSA. Applications will be accepted now through April 10, 2017. More details here.
NEW–Free math event coming to Kent April 29
Join Zeno and volunteers for Mathfest on Saturday, April 29 from 1 to 4 PM. Mathfest is a free event for kids ages 3 to 11 and their families. The event will include over 20 games to help teach children through experience. The first 400 kids to attend will receive a free t-shirt. Read more here.
NEW–A homeschooled 11th grader from Kent serves as page to Senator Joe Fain
Eric Goodman, an 11th grader from Kent, spent a week at the Capitol working with Senator Joe Fain as part of the Senate Page Program. Eric was one of 19 students who served as a page during the 10th week of the 2017 legislative session. Read more here.
NEW–Kent Museum to host a plant sale, May 20.
Kent Museum is hosting a plant sale on May 20 from 10 AM to 2 PM at Bereiter House (855 E. Smith St., Kent, WA 9803). Divide, pot and late your extra plants and bring them down to share. All proceeds benefit the Greater Kent Historical Society. Read more here.

NEW–Kent Station will host Easter Egg Hunt, April 15.
Kids and families are invited to Kent Station on Saturday, April 15 for an Easter egg hunt and scavenging. Kids ages 6 and under will do a traditional egg hunt, while children ages 7 to 12 will have a scavenger hut. Bring your camera to have your photo taken with the Easter Bunny or have your face painted. Get more details here.
Annual Kent Community Garden volunteer event, April 1
The Kent Community Garden needs your help providing easier access to fresh organic food and gorgeous summer blooms. Please join other volunteers on Saturday, April 1 (9 AM to noon) as we create paths between each garden plot using wood chips. This will directly benefit our gardeners, allowing them to get the most out of their plot all season long. Please bring work gloves. Register online here.
Make sure your dogs and cats are licensed
Starting April 1, representatives of the Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC) will go door-to-door to encourage pet owners to license their pets. Owners with unlicensed pets will not issue citations, but will give a 30-day temporary license. The owners will then have 30 days to purchase a license ($30 for spayed and neutered animals, $60 for unspayed and unneutered animals). Read more here.
Kent Mayor Suzette Cooke to give final ‘State of the City’ on April 5, 2017
Kent Mayor Suzette Cooke will update the business community and interested residents at the Kent Chamber of Commerce luncheon on April 5. This address will be Mayor Cooke’s final as Kent’s mayor. She is not seeking re-election this fall. Get the details here.
