A driver was rescued Monday night, Dec. 15 after becoming stranded in floodwaters near the Kent and Auburn border, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred Monday night near the intersection of South 277th Street and 68th Ave South, west of West Valley Highway (map below), when the driver went past a road closed sign and became stuck.

Authorities said the vehicle became immobilized, forcing the driver to climb onto the roof of the car to avoid rising water.

Newly released video from the King County Sheriff’s Office shows deputies from the Marine Rescue Dive Unit working with the Washington National Guard to reach the stranded driver. A National Guard high clearance transport vehicle was used during the rescue.

Officials said the driver was safely rescued, and no injuries were reported.

The King County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public to follow road closure signs, especially during flooding conditions, as flooded roadways can be dangerous and unpredictable.
