A new, metallic and mystical companion to the ‘Penguin and Son’ sculpture called ‘The Guardian’ was installed near the intersection of 2nd and Meeker on Wednesday morning, June 13.

This impressive new winged creature is located just west of the Penguin & Son sculpture – a 10-foot tall father Penguin (‘Titus’) and his 4-foot tall son (‘Hops’) – and was built by the same group of Artists from Green River College’s Welding Technology program:

  • Greg Bartol
  • Anita Schuller
  • Debbie Drllevich
  • Jenifer Wright

Like they did with the Penguin, the Kent Downtown Partnership (KDP) sponsored and paid for this sculpture, working with Bartol’s team, Green River College and the city of Kent.

‘The Guardian’ was created out of repurposed objects consisting of mostly silverware like forks, spoons, handles and other materials.

It is located on W. Meeker Street at 2nd Ave South (map below).
