Alan Williams, a 74-year-old resident of Kent, sadly passed away on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2024, after suffering complications from a near-drowning incident that occurred five days earlier when his seaplane crashed into Lake Meridian.

As we previously reported, the tragic incident took place after Williams crashed his seaplane in the lake and sustained an anoxic brain injury, which results in the death of brain cells after approximately four minutes due to a lack of oxygen.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death as accidental.

The crash occurred around 10:10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, after multiple 911 calls reported that a seaplane had flipped upside down in the lake and was sinking approximately 300 feet from the shoreline.

Emergency crews arrived and found the seaplane upside down in the water. Firefighters, a Kent Police Officer and a resident all entered the water in attempts to rescue Williams.

Boaters on the lake also quickly responded to the crash, attempting to tow the submerged plane closer to shore, but despite heroic efforts, Williams succumbed to his injures in the hospital.

Williams’ death has left the community in mourning as authorities continue to piece together the events that led to this tragic outcome.

Everyone at South King Media sends their deepest sympathies to all who knew and loved Alan.
