Carmen Goers announced she is stepping aside from the race for Washington State Senate in the 47th Legislative District, ending a campaign she said was built around community concerns and working families.
As we previously reported, Goers threw her hat into the ring in January, but has since changed her mind. She was set to run against incumbent Sen. Claudia Kauffman, a Democrat from Kent who was sworn in in January 2023.
“From day one, this campaign has been about the people of the 47th families working hard, feeling the pressure of rising costs, and wanting leadership that actually shows up,” Goers said. “And I’m proud of what we built together.”
Goers said the decision followed months of campaigning and came after discussions with her family.
“This wasn’t an easy decision. There are a lot of factors behind the scenes that people don’t always see, and I’m confident this is the right call for my family and for what comes next,” she said.
The 47th Legislative District includes Kent, Covington and Auburn, areas where Goers said her campaign focused on affordability, public safety and support for working families.
Throughout the race, Goers said she received backing from community members seeking what she described as a different kind of leadership.
“To everyone who supported this campaign, stood with us, and believed in what we were building, thank you,” Goers said. “That support matters, and it doesn’t go away.”
Despite ending her campaign, Goers said she plans to remain involved locally.
“I’m not going anywhere. I will continue to stay engaged, show up, and fight for this community and the values we share,” she said.
Goers did not rule out seeking public office in the future.
