Local businesses are being encouraged to take a break from the office for a sweet cause as the accesso ShoWare Center hosts Cookie Hooky, a lunchtime fundraiser benefiting the Community Events Fund on Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Attendees can sample freshly baked cookies from the accesso ShoWare kitchen, enjoy milk provided by Smith Brothers Farms, and participate in yard games donated by National Event Pros.
The event will also feature a visit from Cool Bird, the Seattle Thunderbirds’ mascot, and a yet-to-be-announced food truck offering lunch options for purchase.
“We’re calling on local businesses to play hooky, bring their teams, and enjoy some midday fun—all while making a real impact in our community,” event organizers said in a statement. “Who doesn’t need a sugar rush in the middle of the day?”
A suggested donation of $15 per person will go directly to the Community Events Fund, which helps cover admission costs for children and families to attend recreational, sporting, and cultural events in the Kent area.
The fund aims to make live events more accessible by removing financial barriers for those who may not otherwise have the opportunity to attend. Contributions help provide grants that create lasting memories through experiences such as cheering on a local sports team, attending a concert, or taking part in a cultural festival.
“By giving, you’re not just funding a ticket—you’re making memories possible and strengthening the sense of community that makes Kent a great place to live, work, and play,” organizers said.
