Council President Satwinder Kaur has run a successful campaign for re-election to the Kent City Council, Position No. 2, with strong bipartisan and community support.

“With your support, we can keep building a stronger, safer, and more inclusive Kent for all,” said Kaur. “I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together, but there’s more to do. I’d be honored to earn your vote.”

A lifelong Kent resident and proud graduate of the Kent School District, Kaur understands this community because she’s lived it. The daughter of immigrant parents who struggled to make ends meet, she began working at 15 while attending Kentridge High School. Through hard work and perseverance, she earned an MBA in Technology Management from the University of Washington and now works as a senior engineer in the IT field. She and her husband, a Boeing engineer and Kentwood High School graduate, are raising their four children in Kent.

Kaur’s 20+ years of community service began long before public office – from volunteering with KentHOPE, the Kent Food Bank, and Rotary Club of Kent to organizing park cleanups, planting trees, and mentoring youth. First elected to the City Council in 2017 and re-elected unopposed in 2021, she was unanimously chosen by her colleagues as Council President in 2024.

As Council President, Kaur has prioritized public safety, infrastructure, and parks. She championed hiring more police officers – increasing the number of officers up 60% – while expanding community-based programs like Community Court and Immersion Policing. Under her leadership, Kent has seen a reduction in crime for two consecutive years. She also helped secure over $70 million for road and sidewalk improvements, safer school zones, and new parks, including East Hill North Community Park.

Kaur’s leadership has earned broad bipartisan support, including endorsements from Mayor Dana Ralph and every member of the Kent City Council, as well as from Kent Police Officers, Kent Firefighters IAFF 1747, the Kent Education Association, King County Democrats, and regional and state leaders such as Congressman Adam Smith, Commissioner Dave Upthegrove, Senator Claudia Kauffman, Senator Tina Orwall, and Representatives Chris Stearns and Debra Entenman.

“Experience, dedication, and results matter more than political rhetoric,” Kaur said. “Together, we can continue making Kent a place where families thrive, businesses grow, and every resident feels safe and included.”
