Kent City Councilmember Toni Troutner has announced her bid for re-election, seeking another term to continue her work on public safety, infrastructure, and community development.
Troutner, first elected in 2017, said her decisions over the past eight years have been focused on supporting Kent families and strengthening the city.
“Every decision I have made has been to support Kent families and strengthen our city,” Troutner said. “From supporting policies that protect our environment, improving our parks and recreation facilities, to strengthening our infrastructure to support our growing community, I am committed.”
Public Safety and Accountability
Troutner has been a strong advocate for public safety, previously serving as Chair of the Public Safety Committee. She supported the addition of body-worn cameras for Kent police officers to increase transparency and accountability and has worked to improve emergency response times.
“I continue to support the Kent Police Department and am proud to have the endorsement of the Kent Police Officers Association,” Troutner said.
Economic Growth and Community Investment
During her tenure, Troutner has worked to expand housing, services, and transit options in Kent, ensuring the city meets the needs of its growing population. She played a role in securing over $2 million in federal CARES Act funding to help local businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.
She also backed apprenticeship utilization programs, helping young people gain access to local jobs in the building and construction trades.
Regional Leadership and Advocacy
Beyond her work on the City Council, Troutner serves in multiple regional roles, ensuring Kent secures necessary funding and resources. She is the Chair of the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority, a coordinator for the Severe Weather Shelter, a member of the Drug Free Coalition, and co-chair of the Watershed Ecosystem Management Committee (WRIA 9).
Additionally, she represents Kent on the Regional Transit Committee, King County Flood Control District Advisory Committee, Puget Sound Regional Council, and the Kent Downtown Partnership Board.
Commitment to Kent’s Future
Having lived in Kent for over 25 years, Troutner emphasized her dedication to the city’s long-term success.
“We have a responsibility to the over 140,000 residents, hundreds of city staff members, and the taxpayers of Kent to ensure each voice is brought to the table and that we deliver high-quality city services,” she said. “We must continue our commitment to create a safer and more resilient city for all.”
Troutner, who received an Advanced Certificate of Municipal Leadership from the Association of Washington Cities in 2024, is endorsed by the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority, the Kent Police Officers Association, local councilmembers, and leaders from across the region.
