A 26-year-old Federal Way man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred Monday evening, June 9, 2025 on northbound I-5 just north of SR 516, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).

The crash happened at approximately 6:46 p.m. when a black Tesla Model 3 struck the rear of a gray 2000 Lexus ES traveling in lane two.

Troopers said the impact pushed the Lexus into the right guardrail before it came to rest in lane one. The Tesla also veered onto the right shoulder following the collision.

The Lexus was carrying two occupants. Sadly, the passenger, identified as 61-year-old Liz L. Vili-Kereti of Federal Way, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 18-year-old driver, also of Federal Way, was transported to Harborview Medical Center with injuries. The State Patrol noted that they were not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The Tesla’s driver, identified as Keith A. Edwards, 26, of Federal Way, allegedly fled the scene but was later apprehended. He is now facing a charge of felony hit and run. Investigators listed speed as the primary cause of the collision. It is not yet known whether drugs or alcohol were a factor.

The incident blocked the freeway for three and a half hours while troopers investigated and cleared the scene.
