On Wednesday Feb. 5, 2025, at 5:21 p.m. Kent Police Officers and Puget Sound Firefighters were dispatched to the Burlington Northern Railroad tracks at E. Titus Street regarding a train hitting a pedestrian.
Multiple officers were dispatched to the scene, and upon arrival learned that the victim, a 30-year-old Kent man, had tragically died.
The King County Medical Examiner’s Office on Thursday, Feb. 6 identified the victim as Benito Martinez, 30, who died from multiple blunt force injuries.
The initial information provided by train crew members indicates that the man was crossing the tracks from east to west and appeared to not notice the approaching train.
The train crew confirmed that the train arms were functioning and in the down position to stop crossing traffic. They stated that both the train’s whistle and crossing warning signals were activated and working properly.
