A 24-year-old Kent man died Monday, Sept. 28, after a car struck his motorcycle during a lane change on southbound SR 167 in Auburn, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The crash occurred about 12:46 p.m. Monday just north of SR 18 and blocked the roadway for approximately four hours and 11 minutes, troopers said.
The State Patrol listed speed and an improper lane change as the causes. Its report lists vehicular homicide in the charges field for the car’s driver, a 28-year-old Seattle man who was not injured.
How the Crash Happened:
- A car and a motorcycle were traveling south on SR 167 just north of SR 18, both in lane four of four.
- The car moved into lane two while the motorcycle moved into lane three.
- The car then moved into lane three and struck the motorcycle.
- The rider was thrown into lane four and sadly died at the scene.
- Both vehicles came to rest on the right side of the roadway.
- The roadway was blocked for approximately four hours and 11 minutes.
The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet that met U.S. Department of Transportation standards, the State Patrol said.
Whether drugs or alcohol were involved was unknown.
The identity of the motorcycle driver will be released by the King County Medical Examiners Office.
