Kent Police arrested a 43-year-old man wanted on a felony warrant after an attempted vehicle theft investigation led officers to recover fentanyl and a stolen firearm early Sunday morning, Oct. 26, 2025.
Police said that at about 6:50 a.m. Sunday morning, officers were dispatched to a business in the 200 block of Washington Avenue South (map below) after a 911 caller reported suspects had attempted to break into his vehicle. The caller followed the suspects’ car to the location and identified it for police.
Officers found the driver and two passengers passed out inside the car. Police said drug paraphernalia and a rock of suspected fentanyl were visible through the windows, with some of the narcotics in the lap of the front passenger.
To prevent the vehicle from moving, officers deployed tire deflation devices and positioned a patrol car behind it before waking the driver. The 30-year-old driver from Chehalis complied with officers’ orders and was later booked for possession of illegal narcotics after fentanyl was found in his pocket.
Police said the male passenger from Kent refused to exit the car, made furtive hand movements, and resisted repeated commands. During the struggle to remove him, officers located a 9mm handgun in his pocket that had been reported stolen in Everett in August 2025. After a significant struggle, he was arrested and booked on a Department of Corrections escape warrant, four counts of possession of legend drugs, possession of a stolen firearm and resisting arrest.
A female passenger was detained but not charged, police said.
“We are thankful for a city that supports extensive officer training,” police said in a statement. “This type of incident can go very wrong for our officers, but they slowed down, restricted the movement of the vehicle, had the appropriate gear to handle the job, and had extra officers present. All good decisions that protected the community and the officers.”
