Kent Police arrested a 29-year-old Renton woman early Sunday morning, Feb. 9, 2025, following a violent stabbing at a West Hill apartment complex that left a 28-year-old woman critically injured.

Officers were dispatched at 3:08 a.m. to an apartment in the 2100 block of S. 272nd Street (map below) after a 911 caller reported that their sister had been stabbed with a kitchen knife.

When officers arrived, they encountered several intoxicated family members, two of whom had blood on their clothing. Initially, some individuals were uncooperative, making it difficult to determine who was a suspect, witness, or victim.

As officers worked to secure the scene and locate the injured person, the victim emerged from an apartment, suffering from multiple stab wounds. She initially remained conscious but lost consciousness while receiving treatment and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Before passing out, the victim identified the suspect as a family member who was still inside the apartment, along with several children. Officers conducted an emergency safety check, located the suspect in a bedroom with a child, and confirmed the other children inside were unharmed. They were later released to their parents, who were not involved in the incident.

Kent Police thanked Federal Way Police for assisting with securing the chaotic crime scene and ensuring a safe arrest.

“This incident unfolded rapidly, and officers from both departments did an excellent job working together to help the victim, keep the children safe, and detain the suspect,” Kent Police said in a statement.

After securing a search warrant, detectives processed the apartment, gathered witness statements, and reviewed video evidence. The suspect was booked for first-degree assault.

The motive behind the attack appears to stem from an argument during a family gathering earlier in the evening.

The victim’s current condition has not been released.
