A 31-year-old Kent man was arrested Friday night, Aug. 22, 2025 after Washington State Patrol (WSP) and Kent Police officers worked together to stop a high-speed pursuit that wound through the city.
Troopers said the suspect was driving a 2022 Camaro at speeds over 100 mph on SR 167 before entering Kent in an attempt to evade officers.
Police said the suspect repeatedly tried to hide in parking lots, but was tracked each time by WSP’s airplane, “Smokey,” which relayed his movements to ground units.
Kent officers responded after learning the registered owner of the Camaro was a man known to police for fleeing from them last month and resisting arrest. On that occasion, he was believed to be armed.
The chase came to a halt when the suspect attempted to drive over railroad tracks near West Harrison Street where there was no crossing.
Police said he then fled on foot and tried hiding in nearby brush before running into a residential yard.
Kent Officers Long and Lyon confronted the man, who tried to hide behind a backyard barbecue and again attempted to escape on foot.
He was detained after struggling with officers.
“The suspect was arrested by WSP who took him for charges and booking,” Kent Police said in a statement, adding, “It’s not very often we see eluding suspects drive their own cars so recklessly. It’s unfortunate such a nice car had to take the brunt of his behavior.:
No injuries were reported.
2/ in Auburn and the driver fled. Troopers did not pursue since Smokey was overhead and able to safely follow it.

The vehicle went into Kent and tried to park in multiple parking lots inconspicuously. However, each time Troopers got close, the vehicle would flee.
4/4 driver into custody. He was booked into the King County Jail.
