The Kent Police Department’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) is stepping up enforcement efforts across the city, with recent arrests ranging from cable theft and drug activity to domestic violence suspects with outstanding warrants.
In a statement posted this week, Kent Police highlighted several recent CRU operations aimed at proactive crime prevention:
- In one case, a woman suspected of stealing cable wire on 100th Ave SE was located just 40 minutes after the initial 911 call, thanks to a witness-provided license plate number. CRU officers found her in downtown Kent, where she confessed to the theft and was charged with first-degree theft.
- In another incident, a CRU officer observed open drug use in a local park and contacted the individual. The man was found to have a felony Department of Corrections warrant for escape and was taken into custody without incident.
- The unit also tracked down a male suspect wanted for domestic violence assault—a known offender with a history of violent crimes and drug offenses. Officers located him inside a vehicle and observed evidence of illegal drugs inside. After obtaining a search warrant, they recovered narcotics and impounded the vehicle.
- Additionally, CRU officers arrested another domestic violence suspect who had previously fled during an attempted arrest several weeks ago.
“CRU Officers have been proactively patrolling numerous properties throughout the city, looking to catch or disrupt suspects committing crimes,” police said in the post. “Great proactive work by our CRU team!”
