Kent Police are investigating a homicide after a 41-year-old Kent man was shot and killed early Sunday, July 26 during a disturbance at a family gathering, police said.
Officers responded at about 1:47 a.m. Sunday to reports of a shooting in the 900 block of East Cherry Hill Street (map below), according to the Kent Police Department. Callers told police the suspected shooter had been restrained by family members before officers arrived.
Officers found an adult male with multiple gunshot wounds. Police, Puget Sound Fire personnel and King County medics began lifesaving efforts, but sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the preliminary investigation indicates that a verbal altercation during a graduation celebration escalated into a physical confrontation involving multiple people. Investigators believe the suspect produced a firearm during the incident and shot the victim multiple times.
Officers recovered the firearm at the scene and arrested a 40-year-old Kent man without further incident.
Kent Police detectives and crime scene investigators processed the scene throughout the morning. Detectives were continuing to interview witnesses and collect evidence Sunday as the investigation remained ongoing.
The victim’s identity will be released by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office after next of kin have been notified.
