On Tuesday evening, July 16, 2024 at 9:04 p.m., Kent Police Officers and Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority Firefighters responded to an apartment complex at 22400 Benson Road following 911 calls reporting a shooting.

Witnesses reported that a male had been shot in the abdomen and was lying on the sidewalk.

Officers arrived at the scene within three minutes and quickly located the victim, a 13-year-old boy. Despite immediate medical aid efforts by officers and firefighters, the young boy tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

According to multiple 911 callers and witnesses, the shooting occurred at a park located at 23300 100th Avenue SE (map below). Witnesses stated that a group of young males fled on foot following the shooting. The victim was reportedly shot near the park and then transported to the apartment complex by another party.

Officers recovered a stolen vehicle from Seattle near the area of the shooting. Authorities are investigating whether the vehicle was used by any of the involved parties.
