A message from the Kent Police Department:
EXTRA DUI ENFORCEMENT – Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend
Thanksgiving is quickly approaching and is one of the busiest travel times of the year. In our communities, friends and family members as well as area college students will be traveling to spend time with their loved ones. Nationally, almost 400 lives are lost every Thanksgiving. In Washington, 50% of our roadway fatalities are due to impaired driving and we lose an average of 43 lives every November.
The King County Target Zero Task Force, made up of your local area police departments along with other traffic safety advocates, would like to remind drivers that if you have consumed alcohol or other substances, including cannabis, please do not to drive.
The King County Target Zero Task Force has received grant funding for high visibility enforcement of impaired driving and extra DUI patrols will occur across King County over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
“While most adults in Washington (83%) believe it is unacceptable to drive within two hours of consuming alcohol or cannabis**, we continue to see crashes caused by impairment on our King County roads. Plan ahead. Use an alternate method of getting home. Or stay the night with your friend or family. Let’s make sure we take a proactive approach – don’t let your friend or family member drive if they appear intoxicated or impaired. We want everyone to make it home to those they love to enjoy this holiday season,” said Sgt. Robb Kramp of the Mercer Island Police Department and King County Task Force Law Enforcement Liaison.
