The Kent Police Department hosted its 12th annual “Shop with a Cop” event on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024, at Target, bringing holiday cheer to local children in need.

Partnering with Kent Youth and Family Services (KYFS), officers accompanied children on a Christmas shopping trip, helping them pick out gifts and making lasting memories.

Many officers participated on their day off or immediately after completing overnight shifts, underscoring the event’s importance to the department.

The community effort included support from donors, volunteers, and city officials.

Mayor Dana Ralph, who played a key role in organizing fundraising efforts, joined the event and staffed the checkout line to greet each child.

Santa Claus and Buddy the Elf brought festive energy, while Kent Sunrise Rotary served breakfast to participants despite rainy weather.

Target staff embraced the holiday spirit by assisting with the event, and Kent Police Explorers volunteered to ensure smooth operations.

The annual event highlights the strong partnerships within Kent to support families and spread holiday joy.

“THANK YOU! to our community who has donated to generously to this day, allowing us to take more kids every year,” police said in a statement.
