NEW-Kent girl makes national headlines celebrating Black History Month
To celebrate Black History Month, Cristi Jones of Kent posted photos on Twitter of her 5-year-old Lola dressed up as famous black women including Josephine Baker, Rosa Parks, Angela Davis, Maya Angelou, Nina Simone, Bessie Coleman, Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, Coretta Scott King, Toni Morrison and others. NEW-Criminals in Kent are looking for opportunities
In last week’s safety email from the Kent Police Department, John Pagel said a resident in The Lakes got video of a man who tried their door knob at 5:49 AM. John points out that criminals are looking for an opportunity. You can protect yourself by locking your house, vehicles and windows.
NEW-Lane closure at 20202 84th Ave. S., Feb. 27 – Mar. 5
From 8 am to 3:30 pm, February 27 through March 5, crews will be taking the northbound curb lane for frontage improvements, replacing sidewalks, Metro bus stop and curb/gutter. Traffic control will be in place.
NEW-Interurban Trail Closure between S. 212th St. and W. James St.
From February 27 through late April 2017, there will be a full closure of the Interurban Trail between S. 212th St. and W. James St. for the installation of large-scale foundations for taller steel power transmission poles. There will also be periodic and temporary shoulder lane restrictions on S. 228th St. at the Interurban Trail for delivery of large scale material and equipment. Traffic control will be in place.

NEW-History of the Interurban Trail
Did you know the Interurban Trail used to be an electric rail line between Seattle and Tacoma? Construction was completed and the first train ran on September 25, 2902. City seeks artists for Kent Summer Art Exhibit
The City has put a call out for prints, photographs, paintings and other types of artwork for a juried exhibit, the Kent Summer Art Exhibit, at the Centennial Center Gallery. The works will be on display from June 7 through Aug. 24. All artwork selected for the exhibit is eligible for City Art Purchase Awards and Kent Arts Commission Exhibit Awards. Click here to apply.

Seattle Rock Orchestra to perform Led Zeppelin I & II March 10
Seattle Rock Orchestra brings the music of Led Zeppelin to Kent’s Spotlight Series on Friday, March 10. The show will feature music from the legendary rock band’s “Led Zeppelin I & II” albums and is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Kentwood Performing Arts Center, 25800 164th Ave. SE, Covington. Kent Kids’ Arts Day is March 11
Celebrate National Youth Arts Month by bringing your child or children to Kent Kids’ Arts Day on Sat., March 11 at Kent Commons. This year will be the 29th year for the event, and it gives children the opportunity to do a wide variety of hands-on art projects. Admission is $10 per child.
