The National Weather Service issued a ‘Winter Weather Watch’ and ‘Winter Storm Watch’ early Sunday morning, Feb. 10, warning of more snow – perhaps 5-10 inches on Monday – as well as other inclement weather coming.

“Snow expected late this afternoon and tonight with accumulations of 2 to 4 inches likely,” experts said.

“Heavy snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches are possible Monday afternoon and Monday evening before precipitation possibly mixes with freezing rain, rain or sleet.”

  • The Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 4 p.m Sunday afternoon, Feb. 10 to 4 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11.
  • The Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Monday morning through Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 12.

Of the graphic below, make note of the yellow line (and notice how it’s north of Kent), of which NOAA says:

“The yellow line denotes the northern boundary of a potentially hazardous mix of winter precipitation. Because some warmer air could move into the interior Monday night and Tuesday, it could mix with the cold air already in place and lead to a mix of freezing rain, snow, and sleet to areas across the interior SOUTH of the approximated yellow line in this image.”

2nd weather system arriving Monday afternoon through Tuesday will have considerably more moisture, but could pull some slightly warmer air in from the coast. This may create a potentially messy, winter weather situation. A WINTER STORM WATCH (blue shade) is in effect for nearly all of Western Washington from midday Monday through much of Tuesday. The area included within the red outlined area could receive as much as 9 to 12 inches of snow. Outside of that, much of the lowlands from Seattle northward could receive 4 to 8 inches of snow. The Olympics and Cascades could receive 1 to 3 feet of snow with this storm system. The yellow line denotes the northern boundary of a potentially hazardous mix of winter precipitation. Because some warmer air could move into the interior Monday night and Tuesday, it could mix with the cold air already in place and lead to a mix of freezing rain, snow, and sleet to areas across the interior SOUTH of the approximated yellow line in this image. This is still a developing situation and there are a host of possible outcomes. Please stay tuned to updated forecasts, watches, warnings, and advisories as they are issued.
