A 27-year-old Enumclaw man faces multiple charges after police say he crashed a stolen vehicle while driving the wrong way on Kent-Kangley Road on Thursday, Oct. 2, injuring himself and another driver.

According to Kent Police, the crash happened around 1:21 a.m. Thursday in the 10400 block of Kent-Kangley Road (map below).

Officers arrived to find a 2018 Subaru Forester on its side and the suspect lying injured on the sidewalk. Police confirmed the Subaru had been reported stolen a day earlier from a restaurant parking lot on East Smith Street, where an 83-year-old Enumclaw man’s vehicle was taken while he was inside eating.

The suspect, who sustained significant injuries including a likely hip fracture, was transported to a local hospital. He told officers he had been driving eastbound and admitted to feeling sleepy, but witnesses and dash cam video confirmed he had been traveling westbound in the oncoming lanes at a high rate of speed.

The other driver, a 46-year-old man from Kettle Falls, was headed eastbound when the Subaru struck his vehicle head-on. He was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Both vehicles sustained major damage and were towed from the scene.

Kent Police said the suspect will face multiple charges once released from the hospital.
