7th annual You Me We a hit with Kent families

A variety of Kent service groups, agencies and teams dedicated to meeting the needs of families and youth were represented at the “Family Festival of Fun” called “You Me We 2017” last Friday. There were many hands on activities like crafts, games and bouncy houses inside the ShoWare Center, free to enjoy by all.

It was a great place to see many of the activities, classes and teams kids can be a part of in Kent. On the main stage, kids and teens performed, showing off the fun skills they’ve acquired.

City of Kent Parks and Recreation Commissioner, Tye Whitfield, emceed the entertainment, which was diverse and energetic. Some of the groups that performed were: Maar Udari (dance from Punjab, India), Kent Elementary’s STOMP and Dance Team, Allegro Performing Arts Academy, Ranjeet Gatka Akhara Karate Dance and Movement, Kentwood Breakdance Club, and the Kent Cobra’s Cheer and Dance Team.

Mayor Suzette Cooke introduced this year’s winner of “Kent’s Got Talent”, Dalamari Holman. She performed her winning spoken word piece.

There were many non-profits with crafts and swag for the kids. Upstairs was the “Journey to Wellness” area, which had engaging learning activities pertaining to healthy living.

This is the seventh year the free family festival has been held. The event was first created to celebrate Kent being named as one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People in America in 2011, by America’s Promise Alliance, the nation’s largest partnership organization dedicated to youth and children.
